The Drive In

After meeting our Trail Leader Alex at 7am, the group headed out  (8 vehicals)  up the 14 to the 395. At Olancha, everybody filled up with gas for the last time, and made sure all our extra fuel cans were full. After that, it was up highway 190 to the south end of Saline Valley Road. There we aired down, then proceeded into the valley via Saline Valley Road.  We climbed the south pass, and then down into Saline Valley. We turned off at Lippencott Canyon road, and then proceeded up the steep trail  into the Racetrack Valley. Camp for that night was to be at Homestake, near the ruins of the Lippincott mine in Racetrack Valley.

Some areas are a bit narrow, and there are more than a few large drop offs along the way.

You wouldn't know it, but there is a sheer drop to the right..
